Charoite is used for handicrafts in Russia and has recently gained great popularity as a jewelry stone. In stone medicine, it is considered a stone for drive, sense of order and for overcoming unfinished business. It is also used for support and in times of great change. Astrology assigns the Charoite to Virgo.

The name Charoite is derived from the place of discovery near the Russian river Tschara. More correct would be the German name Tscharoit, but this name is not used in retail or wholesale. Occasional spellings like Chaoirt, Caroit, Charoid or Charoiet are not correct.
