The size of the L (large) Tumbled Stones is about 2.5 - 3.5 cm.
Alluvial" (i.e. deposited by a river) is the name given to extra quality Dumortierite from Mozambique. The rough stones are transported from their place of origin by rivers and finally deposited. Only particularly hard stones survive this transport route and are then processed into high-quality Tumbled Stones.
The first discovery of Dumortierite was in 1881 in a quarry in the French department Rhône; the first scientific description was made by the mineralogist M.F. Gonnard. The latter named the newly discovered mineral in honor of the French paleontologist Eugène Dumortier (1801 - 1876). Occasionally found spellings like Dumorterite, Dumortiriet, Dumortirite or Dumoterite are therefore not correct.
Dumortierite is also called take-it-easy stone and is used in stone healing to strengthen serenity, confidence and trust.
