Origin of the raw material: USA
The first scientific description of Rhyolite was made in 1860 by Baron Ferdinand von Richthofen (1833 - 1905). The name Rhyolite is derived from the two Greek words "rhein" (to flow) and "lithos" (stone) and alludes to the volcanic origin. Of various possible spellings, e.g. rhiolite, riolite, ryholite or ryolite, rhyolite has prevailed in the retail and wholesale trade. The terms quartz porphyry and liparite are outdated.
