Agate Geodes began their history as gas bubbles in nascent volcanic rock. Rapid cooling caused the rock to solidify and individual gas bubbles remained as rounded or teardrop-shaped inclusions in the rock. Over millions of years, dissolved minerals were then washed into these small cavities by water moving through the rock. In the case of the Agate, the almond in the rock lined itself layer by layer with the mineral from the outside. In the case of this beautiful pair of geodes, on the other hand, the almond was lined on the inside with small Rock Crystals. In the further course and again over millions of years the volcanic rock weathered and left behind the robust Agate Geode. This Agate Geode was found in the south of Brazil in the state Rio Grande do Sul.
