The dark purple transparent strands of amethyst have a length of about 40cm; the balls of amethyst have a polished surface and a diameter of 8mm.
In gemstone medicine, dark amethyst is used when a mineral is needed that strengthens the themes of alertness, justice and inner peace.
The name amethyst is derived from the Greek word amethystos (counteracting intoxication) and refers to the traditional belief that with an amethyst one is protected against the intoxicating effects of wine and other alcohol. Spellings such as Amathyst, Amethist, Ametist, Ametyhst, Ametyst, Amnethyst, Amthyst or Amythist are therefore incorrect.
