The faceted buttons are between 2 x 4mm (at both ends of the andalusite strand) and 4 x 7mm (in the middle of the strand); the entire strand is about 39cm long.

Andalusite got its name after the first known , but later recognized as atypical locality Serranía de Ronda in the Spanish province of Andalusia.

Known varieties of Andalusite are Chrysanthenum Sstone and Chiastolite.
