When grinding the 16mm spheres for this chalcedony strand, the surrounding parent rock (the matrix) of the mineral was consciously processed as well. This resulted in beautiful, individually drawn spheres in shades of cream and gray.
The chalcedony strand is 40cm long.
The terms "Calchedon" and "Carchedon" are first used by Pliny the Elder in his Latin Naturalis Historia in the 1st century A.D.. Which stones have been described here, however, cannot be clearly identified on the basis of the descriptions. Over "intermediate stages" like Calcedon, Calzedon, Chalzedon or Kalcedon the name changed to the today common Chalcedon.
