The slightly twisted cuboids of fluorite in different colors from white-transparent to green and purple are about 12mm long and 6mm thick; the total length of the fluorite strand is 40cm.

The name fluorite is derived from the Latin fluere (to flow) and refers to the mining term fluorspar for fluorite. Spellings such as floride, florite, flouride, fluorite or fluride are therefore incorrect.
