The creamy white disc with the typical spiral pattern is often mistakenly called a nautilus snail or a shiva shell. In fact, however, it is the lid with which the turban snail can close its shell in case of danger, the so-called operculum. This is also called Shiva Eye and represents knowledge and wisdom. In the Mediterranean region, the term Eye of Lucia or Sea Eye is also known.
