The name Eudialyte is a combination of the Greek terms "eu" (good, capable) and "dialytos" (decomposable) and refers to the easy fusibility and good acid solubility of the mineral. The spelling of Eudialyth, Eudalith, Eudalyth and Eudialithe, which can be found in lain light, is therefore not correct.
A misleading synonym for eudialite is almandine spar. In Lapland, one of the places where Eudialyte is found, the stone is also called "Blood of the Saami", because according to the legend the stone was formed when the Saami fought with a giant on the Kola Peninsula.
