The spotted jasper stands for the themes of consolidation, clarification of what is necessary and balance between activity and rest.

The trade name for the leopard skin stone is also leopard skin jasper, leopardite, leopard skin rhyolite or leopard jasper. The name poppy jasper, which is occasionally found in the wholesale trade, is not correct for leopard skin jasper.

The first scientific description of rhyolite was made in 1860 by Baron Ferdinand von Richthofen (1833 - 1905). The name rhyolite is derived from the two Greek words "rhein" (to flow) and "lithos" (stone) and alludes to its volcanic origin. Of various possible spellings, e.g. rhiolite, riolite, ryholite or ryolite, rhyolite has become established in the retail and wholesale trade. Eye jasper is a well-known synonym; the terms quartz porphyry and liparite are obsolete.
