The first scientific description of Rhodonite was made in 1819 by the German naturalist Christoph Friedrich Jasche. The pink color inspired Jasche to name it "Rhodonite", which is derived from the Greek word "rhodon" meaning rose or rose-scented. Occasional spellings like rhodonite, rodonite or rodonite are therefore not correct.
The stone medicine appreciates the Rhodonite because of its effect in the subject areas of forgiveness and understanding as well as for conflict resolution.
Rhodonite was Stone of the Month for December 2020.
