Choker part cube 10 mm, diagonally drilled 2.5 mm, Dumortierite A
Dumortierite was first discovered in 1881 in a quarry in the French department of Rhône; the first scientific description was made by the mineralogist M.F. Gonnard. He named the newly discovered mineral in honor of the French paleontologist Eugène Dumortier (1801 - 1876). Occasional spellings such as dumorterite, dumortirite, dumortirite or dumoterite are therefore incorrect. Dumortierite is also often referred to as take-it-easy stone.
