The green ocelot jasper is found in the region around Purbalingga (Central Java). This is an alluvial deposit, i.e. the rough stones are transported from their place of origin by rivers and finally deposited.
Similar to Heliotrope (Bloodstone), the green color is caused by iron silicate. The light areas in the green jasper are caused by the inclusion of volcanic ash.
Localities where ocelot jasper is found also refer to it as Green Tiger Jasper (green). The term "Moss Agate" is also mistakenly used for ocelot jasper in the trade.
Green jasper is important in gemstone healing to strengthen control over thoughts and actions. Calmed in this way, it is easier to stand by your feelings and live them out. Balance and self-protection are further themes of green jasper.
