Other names for Calcite are Kalkspat/Kalkspath, Kalkstein, Doppelspat and Seekreide. The vernacular calls the Calcite also leg break stone. Of the various possible spellings, e.g. calcite, calcite, calcite or calcide, the spelling calcite, which is in use today in the wholesale trade, has prevailed.
