The translucent capiz shell (Windowpane oyster Placuna Placenta) has been used for centuries in Indonesia to make elaborate handicrafts and as a substitute for glass. This is why the mussel is also known as the windowpane mussel.
Height of the tealight approx. 7 cm, diameter approx. 13 cm. The recess for the tealight is approx. 3.5 cm in size.
The processing of the Capiz shell is very time-consuming, as the different layers of the Mussel shell are first carefully separated and made malleable by soaking. After shaping, cutting and drying, the individual pieces of shell are dyed and then assembled into the beautiful lotus flower-shaped tealights.
The capiz shells for the tea lights come from farms; the shellfish meat is a traditional local food.
