The red fossilized horn coral comes from Rileys Canyon near Kamas in Utah. Occurrence of the corals was about 300 million years ago; they are therefore not endangered coral species living today!
The former coral reefs now lie high in the mountains of Utah. Since the coral is no longer mined, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find cabochons or coral jewelry with beautiful designs.
