The creamy white disc with the typical spiral pattern is mistakenly referred to in the trade as a nautilus snail, shiva shell or shiva snail. However, it is actually the lid with which the turban snail can close its shell in case of danger, the so-called operculum. This is also known as Shiva's Eye or Shiva's Eye, and in the Mediterranean region it is also known as Lucia's Eye, Mallorca Eye and Sea Eye.
Shiva's Eye, also known as the third eye, symbolizes knowledge, wisdom and the omniscience of Shiva, the Hindu god of fertility. The use of Shiva's Eye on masks and other ritual objects has been handed down from the indigenous people on the west coast of North America.
