The size of the L (large) Tumbled Stones is approximately 2.2–3.5 cm.
“Alluvial” (i.e., deposited by a river) refers to extra-quality Dumortierite from Mozambique. The rough stones are carried downstream from their place of origin by rivers and eventually deposited. Only particularly hard stones survive this journey and are then processed into high-quality Tumbled Stones.
Dumortierite was first discovered in 1881 in a quarry in the Rhône department of France; the first scientific description was provided by the mineralogist M.F. Gonnard. He named the newly discovered mineral in honor of the French paleontologist Eugène Dumortier (1801–1876). Occasionally encountered spellings such as Dumorterite, Dumortiriet, Dumortirit, or Dumoterite are therefore incorrect.
Dumortierite is also known as “Take-It-Easy Stone” and is used in crystal healing to promote Serenity, confidence, and trust.
