An absolute rarity: Libyan Glass as a drilled Tumbled Stone!
Size of the drilled stones approx. 2.2 - 2.5 cm, diameter of the hole approx. 2.2 mm.
Other names for Libyan Glass are Desert Glass, Sahara Glass and Saharan Glass (due to its localities in the Sahara desert). Libyan Glass is also sold under the name LDG (Libyan Desert Glass) or LDS(G) (Libyan Desert Silica (Glass)).
Michael Gienger associates the natural glass from the Sahara with the themes of cheerfulness and fun as well as spontaneity and joie de vivre.
Libyan Glass, also known as desert glass, is a rare and unusual mineral that delights the world of gemstones and mineral lovers. Desert glass is a Tektite with a bright green-yellowish color. With its unique history of formation, it has established itself as a valuable collector's item and fascinating jewelry material.
Libyan Glass is a natural glass formed by an extremely rare process of melting sand under enormous pressure and high temperature. It is assumed that the origin of Glass can be traced back to a meteorite impact around 28 - 30 million years ago (Oligocene). The impact of a meteorite or a comet near the border between Egypt and Libya released so much energy that the sand in the desert literally melted and turned into Glass. Desert glass consists of 98% lechatelierite, a natural quartz glass.
Localities: between the large sand lake near the Kufra oasis in south-western Egypt and the Gilf-el-Kebir plateau on the Egyptian-Libyan border

Design your own gemstone jewelry: Tumbled Stone Lybian drilled
Hello! My name is Marco Schreier and I am the founder of the Mineralienhandlung GmbH of the same name. Creativity and stones have been a topic for me since I was a child, and they first shaped my free time and then my entire professional life.
As a child, this began playfully with collecting and crafting with stones I had found myself and with the first minerals that my grandfather brought me from the Alps. Later, a fascination for processing, sawing, grinding, designing and artistic work with gemstones emerged. With our Chili Creative ® brand, we managed to build up a range developed by experts from our wholesale business and our production sites in Asia.
Today, numerous professional jewelry designers, goldsmiths, jewelry makers, jewelers and creative people from the online world such as Etsy and Pinterest providers use the components of Chili Creative® in their projects. With our tools, stone components, bead strands, pearls and silver parts as well as high-quality stringing materials, you can create creative jewelry projects that are highly profitable for resale.
