The faceted Spinel buttons are approx. 2mm thick and have a diameter of approx. 3mm. The spinel necklaces are 45 cm long and the lobster clasp is made of 925 silver.
In gemstone healing, black Spinel is used when constructive energy and modesty are required; discipline and a sense of duty are strengthened.
There are two theories for the origin of the name Spinel: Spinel is either derived from the Greek "spin(n)os" (to sparkle) or from the Latin "spinella" (small thorn). Various spellings of the mineral have been used in Europe since the 16th century, e.g. Spynell, Spinella and Spinellus. Today the spelling Spinel is common, occasionally also Spinnell can be found.
