Freshwater cultured pearls from China—origin and cultivation
Our freshwater cultured pearls come from China, one of the world’s most important sources of cultured pearls. They are cultivated in the freshwater mussel Hyriopsis cumingii, which belongs to the family of river and pond mussels (Unionidae) and is native to the rivers and lakes of central and southern China.
The pearls come from controlled aquaculture in natural lakes and artificially created ponds. Key regions for pearl farming include the Chinese provinces of Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Anhui, Hunan, and Hubei.
After harvest, the freshwater cultured pearls are carefully sorted by size, shape, color, and surface quality and strung into pearl strands.
For jewelers, goldsmiths, and jewelry designers, our strands of freshwater cultured pearls offer a wide range of possibilities for creating high-quality pearl necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and custom jewelry designs.
