The square cabochon made of serafinite is approx. 12 x 12mm in size; stone weight approx. 8.5ct.
The ring shank and bezel setting are made of highly polished, gold-plated 925 silver;
Silver weight approx. 4.27g.
Ring dimensions 22 x 20mm, ring size 20 (63).
With its low Mohs hardness of 2 - 2.5, seraphinite is a very soft stone; the mineral also has a fibrous, intergrown structure. This makes Seraphinite very difficult to work with and it takes the skill of an experienced cutter to shape this gemstone into the desired ring stone.
As the name clinochlore (the mineralogical name for serafinite) evokes associations with the toxic element chlorine, which is not contained in the mineral, the trade name Seraphinite was introduced. This now recognized name only applies to the rare green-silvery clinochlore from Siberia.
