Blue aragonite is also called oceanite in retail as well as wholesale.
The mineral Aragonite was described for the first time in 1796 by the German mineralogist Abraham Gottlob Werner and named by after the place of discovery in the province of Aragon in northeast Spain; the spelling Arragonite is therefore not correct.
Blue aragonite is very closely related to blue calcite; the two minerals differ in cleavage, crystal structure and solubility.
