An Introduction to Chakras and Gemstones
Chakras and gemstones are closely related, as both operate on a subtle level and influence the flow of energy within the human body. The chakras are energy centers arranged along the spine, each representing specific physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of life. If one of these centers becomes unbalanced, it can affect well-being, inner harmony, and life energy.
Gemstones possess unique qualities due to their structure, color, and energetic vibration. These vibrations can resonate with the frequencies of the chakras. Through this resonance, gemstones are able to gently stimulate, harmonize, or strengthen the chakras. This is precisely where the connection between chakras and gemstones lies.

By using the appropriate gemstones, the chakras can be specifically balanced. In doing so, the stones support the free flow of energy and help release blockages or strengthen weakened chakras. Each chakra is associated with a specific life theme—such as security, creativity, self-confidence, love, or communication—and the selected gemstones correspond precisely to this theme in their effects.
In this way, gemstones can help restore balance to the energy of the chakras and thereby positively influence the respective area of life. Conscious work with chakras and gemstones connects body, mind, and spirit and promotes holistic well-being as well as inner balance.
The Lapis Vitalis Chakra Set was developed by Monika Grundmann. For many years, Ms. Grundmann led a 16-day chakra training program alongside Michael Gienger, the founder of modern crystal healing. The following information regarding content and application is derived from the Edelstein-Balance® concept

What are chakras?
Chakras are the body’s energy centers. The name “chakra” comes from the ancient Indian cultural language Sanskrit, where it means “wheel.” Chakras are therefore usually depicted as spinning wheels aligned along the body’s central axis from the groin to the crown of the head.
Each chakra represents an area of life, a theme. Everything that takes place in this area is also reflected in the corresponding chakra. Furthermore, each chakra has a spiritual, mental, emotional, and vital aspect that needs to be lived out.
Today, we generally know that chakras are energy centers. The descriptions we encounter in modern literature originate predominantly from India. They are typically counted from bottom to top, meaning the first chakra is located at the perineum, coccyx, or below the pubic bone (depending on the perspective), and the highest one at the crown of the head.

But that is where the similarities end. Regarding the exact position, nature and composition, opening, direction of rotation, meaning, and even the number of chakras, the various traditions offer completely different accounts. Upon closer inspection, it becomes clear that essentially every system describes all the characteristics and qualities of the chakras, but that, due to philosophical considerations, several chakras are often grouped together into specific “units.”
When it comes to the number of chakras in the various systems, the issue is not how many chakras actually exist, but which (and thus how many) chakras play a role in relation to a specific system or context. Hence the wide variations in number, ranging from three to ten. However, there is much to suggest that we have at least nine main chakras in the body.
Each chakra represents a specific area of life or a specific theme. Everything that takes place “within us” in relation to this area of life (desires, thoughts, feelings, impulses to act) takes place in this chakra. Depending on where (which chakra) we shift our awareness, one chakra or another becomes active, and different desires, thoughts, images, feelings, and impulses to act arise. Furthermore, each chakra has a spiritual, mental, emotional, and vital aspect that needs to be lived out.

Which gemstone is suitable for which chakra?
By using the appropriate gemstones, the chakras—and thus the respective area of life—can be balanced. In addition to the seven best-known chakras, this set also includes stones for the nasal and thymus chakras. The selected stones correspond in their effects to the theme of the respective chakra.

Brief Chakra Applications for Everyday Life with Gemstones
Chakra Surfing (emotional aspect)
This is about feelings and emotions. The corresponding stones are placed slowly from the bottom up. Observe the images and feelings that arise with each chakra, then release them before placing the next stone. After a brief rest period, the stones are removed in reverse order. To make this Gemstone Balance® application truly profound, mindfulness and openness to the subtle energies are essential. It is recommended to perform this application with a partner.
Chakra Meditation “Mind-Clearing” (mental aspect)
The goal of this practice is to clear the mind. To do this, you can choose a specific chakra theme based on your current state, needs, and feelings. Once the theme is chosen, the meditation can begin. In the Gemstone Balance®, there are questions and affirmations for each chakra that guide you through the meditation.

Chakra Balance (spiritual aspect)
This focuses on one’s own core essence, one’s own “inner sun.” This treatment is performed only in pairs. Both the front and back of the body can be treated, but the sequence always proceeds from bottom to top.
The stone associated with the chakra is guided over the chakra in spiral movements. The circles become larger and larger. You can intuitively rotate clockwise or counterclockwise. Generally speaking, clockwise rotation brings energy in, while counterclockwise rotation removes excess. A brief period of rest has proven to be very effective here.
Chakra Vitality for Every Day (Vital Aspect)
To start the day full of energy, or to restore balance in the evening, draw a gemstone from the chakra set with your eyes closed. This directly addresses the “body’s intelligence.” Place the selected stone on the corresponding chakra. If you don’t have time to lie down, you can also wear the stone on your body during the day or stick it onto the chakra to activate or harmonize a single chakra.
Gemstone Balance® Tip:
When removing the stones, it has proven very soothing to briefly place your hand once more on the spot where the stone was—as a sort of protection and seal.

Daily Chakra Meditation
Two wonderful ways to use gemstones on the chakras are, on the one hand, targeted application based on your current state, needs, and sensitivities, and on the other hand, an intuitive approach to these topics. The chakra meditation described here is intended above all to be a time of peace and reflection.
Simply have no expectations. View it as a little “time-out” with the opportunity to support and harmonize the chakras through the power of the stones. Sometimes you only notice the effect some time later, since we humans usually forget why something went so well, but tend to complain when things go wrong.
Here’s what your personal chakra meditation might look like:
Analytical selection:
You decide which topic is most relevant to you right now, e.g., “communication,” “growth,” or “perseverance.” Formulate it for yourself using the text described below and simply place the selected stone on the corresponding chakra for about 15–20 minutes. Here, too, your intuition decides when it’s enough.

Be mindful and trust your body’s signals instead of stubbornly watching the clock! And if you reach a good point after 3 minutes or perhaps fall asleep with the stone, that’s fine too! You don’t necessarily have to think about the topic during the meditation—it’s better if you simply let the stone have its space. The topic has already been “activated” by the selection of the stone.
Intuitive Selection:
Take the chakra stones in your hand and spontaneously choose the one that first catches your eye, or with your eyes closed, use your left hand (the left is our intuitive side) to pick a stone. Then place the stone as described above for the analytical selection.

Application of Chakra Stones in Professional Gemstone Wellness
The stones can be placed on the respective chakras. If you wish to support a specific chakra, simply place the corresponding stone on the area for a while, or attach the stone to the skin for a while if you do not wish to lie down. However, the Chakra Gemstone Balance® also constitutes a standalone treatment. You can use it at the beginning or end of a wellness treatment (e.g., massage) or perform it as a separate treatment.

To do this, place the stones from bottom to top on the treatment partner’s chakras. Allow sufficient time (at least three long breaths of your own) between placing each new stone and simply observe. Afterward, let your client rest for a while. Stay nearby during this time and pay attention to how your client is doing.
If you notice that a “good point” has been reached—as indicated by increasing relaxation, deep breathing, or a joyful facial expression—remove the stones in the reverse order of placement, that is, from top to bottom. This usually happens more quickly than the placement. If these were placed directly on the skin, some stones may seem to be “stuck.” We leave these in place for a moment longer, as they are still “working.”

Once you have removed the last stone, your client will almost always take a deep breath or open their eyes. Ask how they are feeling and let them know that they may lie there for a moment longer and enjoy the experience. Please also remember to return any energies you have absorbed and to cleanse the room and the stones.
Important notes on chakra treatment
• The corresponding stones are placed from bottom to top and removed in reverse order.
• To activate or harmonize individual chakras, you can also wear the stone on your body during the day.
• Light spiral massage of the individual chakras (starting with the 1st chakra) or of a preferred chakra with the corresponding stone: Massage intuitively in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction. This may vary for each chakra.
• Be mindful and attentive to your partner’s reactions.
• The treatment can last from a few minutes to a quarter of an hour. Always pay attention to your partner’s reactions and adjust the position of the stones as needed.
• If you have no prior experience with chakra treatments, intuitive work is the best approach. Pay attention to how the stone seems to want to rotate or move. Generally speaking, clockwise rotation brings energy in, while counterclockwise rotation removes excess energy.
• If you do not feel an impulse to place a specific stone, please do not do so.

• When removing the stones, it has proven very beneficial to briefly place your hand once more on the spot where the stone was positioned—as a form of protection and sealing, so to speak.
• The stones in the Lapis Vitalis Chakra Set correspond in their effects to the theme of the respective chakra, but the stones can also be placed intuitively in a different order. What is important is your mindfulness and your intention to do good.
Concluding the Chakra Treatment with Gemstones
Let your client rest covered for a while longer and now take a closer look at them. Perhaps they have a smile on their face that they didn’t have before, or their facial muscles are noticeably more relaxed and the lines are less visible than before. Perhaps your client also rises with a realization they wouldn’t have had without the treatment. Don’t they really look “more beautiful”?
And that is precisely what the Chakra Treatment of Edelstein-Balance® is all about: awakening one’s own inner beauty and bringing it to light. Reawakening love for ourselves and activating our self-healing powers.

The Limits of Gemstone Application
Since ancient times, humans have used gemstones to support well-being. However, these self-applications in no way replace medical or naturopathic treatment. The limitations of this method must therefore be strictly observed.
If symptoms occur during or after an application, they must be evaluated by a professional. Gemstone applications must not be performed in cases of fever, serious illness, or mental disorders. During pregnancy, a doctor’s approval must be obtained in advance. This also applies when taking medication.
If in doubt, you should always consult your doctor or naturopath before use. Since each person reacts individually, no guarantee or liability can be assumed for the effectiveness or safety of the described applications.

Monika Grundmann – Developer of the Chakra Set with Gemstones
The Chakra Set with gemstones and the applications were developed by Monika Grundmann as part of the Edelstein-Balance® treatment concept. Monika Grundmann is one of the leading figures in modern gemstone work. With the Edelstein-Balance® she developed, she has created a holistic concept that combines centuries-old knowledge of healing stones with contemporary applications.
From an early age, she engaged intensively with the effects of gemstones on the body, mind, and soul. Edelstein-Balance® occurred as a result of years of practice, keen perception, and a deep understanding of energetic connections—a method that places the individual at the center and is focused on balance, stability, and inner harmony.

Monika Grundmann places great emphasis on mindfulness, personal responsibility, and clear boundaries in application. She views her work as complementary support for well-being, not as a substitute for medical or therapeutic treatments. This responsible approach shapes her entire practice.
As an author, speaker, and developer, she has been sharing her knowledge for many years and inspires people to use gemstones consciously, respectfully, and meaningfully. With Edelstein-Balance®, she has created a method that combines clarity, structure, and depth—and continues to accompany many users on their personal journeys to this day.
In many beauty or massage studios, Edelstein-Balance® is used as a standalone or complementary method. The selected gemstones can be integrated into treatments to deepen periods of rest, enhance body awareness, and support perception. They complement treatments such as facial or body treatments, massages, or relaxation rituals, creating a harmonious atmosphere where letting go and regeneration become possible. This is not about rigid procedures, but rather a finely tuned interplay of touch, calm, and conscious perception. The Edelstein-Balance® complements classic treatments without dominating them and can be flexibly integrated into existing treatment concepts.
In the private sphere as well, Edelstein-Balance® offers a simple yet mindful way to incorporate gemstones into daily life. At home, they can be used as companions for rest and relaxation—for example, during mindful breaks, relaxation exercises, or as support for personal rituals. In doing so, the practice leads to greater mindfulness and self-awareness.
Monika Grundmann says of herself: "Even as a child, I wanted to become a massage therapist. After a career as a civil servant, I eventually learned the trade of cosmetology and foot care. Following my training as a naturopath, I met Michael Gienger, and my enthusiasm for crystal healing ultimately led me to develop a concept for stone massages: the Edelstein-Balance®. This led to my book “Beauty Through Touch” and the book “Wellness Stones,” with Michael Gienger as editor. For many years, we worked together to spread the idea of a happy and free life on this planet. The stones were our companions.
I am a founding member of the nationwide Crystal Healing Network, a voluntary association of therapists, a founding member of the Fair Trade Minerals & Gems e.V. association, and became a member of the Crystal Healing Association shortly after its founding.
It gives me great joy to teach crystal healing in what I consider the most beautiful way: through mindful touch with people."
